Yates wants nothing less than three points

Halesowen striker Luke Yates reveals that their next game against Daventry Town is a ‘must win’.

The Southern League Division One central side currently sit in third place with three games in hand and nine points off the leaders Berkhamstead.

Yates, 21, said: “We’ve got to make these games in hand count, we’re in good form, we need to keep this momentum going into next game.”

Last game, The Yeltz were victorious, beating Kempston Rovers 5-0 away from home. Yates felt that this was one of the best performances of the season from the team.

“Any game away from home is always a challenge but we approached it fantastically from minute one.

“Going forwards we always looked like we had a chance of scoring and defensively we were organised,” he said.

Yates has scored five goals for Halesowen this season but wants to add even more goals to his game.

“A goal every other game so far this season isn’t bad going, especially as I’ve been coming off the bench on occasions but I feel like I can still score more. Last season I got 22 which was my highest amount in one season,” Yates said.

This is Yates’ third season at the club and was part of the Halesowen side which got relegated last season. He feels that the relegation has helped the team to become stronger.

He said: ‘The relegation last season was almost a blessing in disguise, it was something which for the sake of the club needed to happen.

“Last season we didn’t have a good enough squad to be able to cope with demands of the league above. This season we actually look a better side then we did last year, we’ve brought in some good additions to this side who could probably be playing a few leagues up.”

Halesowen’s next league game against Daventry Town is at home and tickets are being priced at five pounds.
